About PPCS
I started working on computers, as an odd job, about 10 years ago. Throughout high school, I was the one called on when the classroom computer wouldn't boot, or crashed, or wouldn't read a CD. In May 2005, however, I decided that I wanted to turn my computer skills into a career. For the next year, I not only worked to improve my knowledge of PC systems, and how to repair them, but I also learned how to start my own business.
In June 2006, I decided that the time was right to open for business. Taking the unassuming name of "Potter PC Services", I have focused on technical support, especially home system security and protection. My "computer cleanup" service is the result of this. "Computer cleanup" is my name for a complete system scan for spyware, viruses, worms, and anything else that simply should not be on a computer.
Potter PC Services offers not only the Computer Cleanup service, but also installation assistance, system repairs and upgrades, and more. My intention is to help those who need help, those who would describe themselves as "computer illiterate". For this reason, I have chosen, at the start, to offer in-home, personal support, rather than diagnosing over the phone.
In 2008, Potter PC Services has expanded its catalog to include web development. I made this decision mostly because the world is becoming increaingly connected, even in many of the almost rural communities in my local area. Everyone wants a website, but almost nobody knows how to make one. I'm not a designer, though. I'll gladly admit that I'm probably not the best person to talk to about your site's logos or layout or any of the more "artistic" areas of the Internet. The code that lies beneath that design, though, is my area of expertise, whether it's a front-end in Javascript or a language like PHP on the server side.
About This Site
As I said, I'm not a web designer. The layout of this site is strictly functional. It isn't pretty, but it gets the job done. I know that first impressions are often the most important, but I think that a site that works, and works quickly, can be much more useful than a slower page laden with graphics, Flash, and ads. To this end, I have tried to make potterpcs.net as lean as possible, if for no other reason than so many people in this area are still on dialup, and they just might choose the company whose site loads in a few seconds, even if they don't have all the bells and whistles of "the other guys".
